1. Who we are and these terms
Volta is operated by Volta Markets Ltd (company number 17276243), whose registered office is 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA. These terms govern your access to Volta’s website and marketplace.
By creating an account or using the marketplace, you agree to this version of the terms. If you do not agree, do not use Volta. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use personal data.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract under the law of England and Wales.
- Give accurate information, keep access to your email secure, and tell us promptly if you think somebody else has accessed your account.
- One person must not impersonate another, create deceptive accounts, or use Volta for unlawful or commercial-scale activity without our written agreement.
- You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless caused by our failure to use reasonable care.
3. The marketplace
Volta provides a venue for members to list, discover and arrange the sale of second-hand goods. Unless a listing expressly says that Volta is the seller, the sale contract is between the buyer and seller. Volta does not own, inspect or take possession of member-listed items.
Automated tools may help draft listing details or price guidance. Sellers must check every buyer-visible fact before publishing. Guidance is not a valuation, guarantee or safety inspection.
4. Seller responsibilities
Sellers must have the right to sell the item and describe its identity, condition, price, faults, recalls and included parts accurately. Photos must show the actual item. Sellers must not list stolen, counterfeit, recalled, unsafe or prohibited goods.
Children’s products require particular care. A seller must disclose known damage or missing safety parts; a buyer should inspect fit, wear and safety-critical parts and follow the manufacturer’s instructions before use.
5. Buying, payment and collection
Check the listing, ask questions and inspect the item at collection. Where supported checkout is available, the item price, any fee, collection window and protection terms are shown before you confirm. A purchase is not complete merely because members exchange messages.
If checkout is marked as paused or unavailable, Volta has not accepted a payment through that screen. Do not treat a demo card form or an order preview as evidence that money has moved. Transactions arranged or paid outside supported Volta checkout are not covered by Buyer Protection.
Buyer and seller should agree a safe collection place and time. Do not confirm collection until the item has been handed over and checked. Each party is responsible for their own travel, supervision and personal safety.
6. Fees, cancellations and problems
Any Volta fee is displayed before an enabled checkout is confirmed. Your bank or payment provider may impose separate charges under its own terms.
Cancellation, refund and dispute options depend on the transaction state and applicable law. Contact us promptly and do not confirm a completed handover if there is a problem. Nothing in these terms removes statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
7. Acceptable use and content
Do not misuse Volta, scrape it at scale, interfere with security, send spam, harass members, upload malicious material or use another person’s personal data without a lawful reason. Content you submit must be lawful and must not infringe another person’s rights.
You keep ownership of your content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, adapt and display it only as reasonably needed to operate, secure and promote Volta. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for backups, legal records and content already shared as part of a completed transaction.
8. Moderation and account access
We may review, restrict or remove content and may suspend or close accounts where reasonably necessary to protect members, investigate misuse, comply with law or enforce these terms. Where appropriate, we will explain the action and offer a way to contact support.
9. Availability and liability
We work to keep Volta available and accurate, but we do not promise uninterrupted service or that every member, listing or item is trustworthy, safe or suitable. We are not responsible for losses caused by another member’s acts or by matters outside our reasonable control.
We do not exclude liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or breach of your statutory consumer rights. If you use Volta as a consumer, we are responsible for foreseeable loss caused by our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care.
10. Changes, law and contact
We publish material changes as a new dated version and will give reasonable notice where a change significantly affects members. The version you accepted remains recorded with your account.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in the part of the UK where you live.
